It’s often said that its the little things that count in life. As a boat owner myself, having a mooring cleat in just the right position makes all the difference when berthing my boat. Its all about peace of mind knowing that come the winter storms She will be just fine in the berth, all ship shape and Bristol Fashion.
With this in mind, during the summer, the Swanwick Team, armed with spanners, drills and a wide range of knocking sticks, added over 100 new mooring cleats to the marina pontoons, mainly along the main walkways where previously our pontoon safety ladders provided just the right opportunity to tie a mooring line…..indeed, in 1 berth we noted that a customer had tied his dinghy to a safety box, clearly in desperation !
I hope that the new cleats will be of use and will enable you to secure your Pride and Joy securely to the pontoon this winter - drop the Swanwick Team a line if you need another cleat fitted or we havent got the one closest to your boat in quite the right position and we’ll re-deploy the Cleat Moving Team !
I do not pretend to know a lot about birds, well the flying type at least. I have seen Bill Oddie on the television and have even sat through an entire episode of Autumn watch so it is with some reluctance that I have had to learn a bit more about starlings.
It is at this time of year that we often find ourselves visited by this somewhat unwelcome guest and we have tried all sorts of methods of keeping them at bay. They arrive year on year and use the masts of the boats as a brief resting point before going home to roost at night under the train station in Portsmouth. Unfortunately they also eat berries at this time of year which leaves some rather annoying and sometimes damaging mess on the decks of boats in the marina. One berth-holder actually likened them to his son saying “they are never about during the day just coming in at around tea time, leaving their mess everywhere and then going out for the night”
As I said we have tried all methods of keeping them at bay, from an elaborate electronic bird scarer to a starting pistol. Neither are hugely effective and walking around with a pistol opposite a military base is never a great idea. This is where we turned to the services of Skyline Falconry services. Chris flies a variety of birds of prey round the marina. The purpose of this is to try and create no-fly zones for the starlings and we are starting to see the benefits now. Flying birds including kestrels and falcons Chris is perfecting the art of pest control within this environment and I hope you will agree that this non intrusive method is a great way of addressing this problem and hopefully keeping your boats a bit cleaner.
Chris can also be seen flying his birds at Port Solent Marina.
Premier Yacht Sales is extending its portfolio to offer boat sales customers a further option when it comes to buying a new boat. Fractional Ownership.
Fractional Yacht Ownership is a great way to either get into yacht ownership in the first place or even own a larger or more expensive boat than you could otherwise afford…
We take all the stress out of fractional yacht ownership leaving you to enjoy your boating at a fixed monthly fee, for a fraction of the cost it would normally take to own a yacht.
Use this space to ask any questions you might have about fractional ownership and one of our Elan team will respond. Or simply login to register an interest in the scheme. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

I am delighted to inform you that the Secretary of State has decided not to intervene in the planning application for the redevelopment of Swanwick Marina.
The matter now rests with Fareham Borough Council and we are confident we will receive the go ahead in the very near future.
This decision really does allow us to prepare for the future of Swanwick and I would like to thank all those who have expressed their support over the last few months. As soon as we have a definite timetable, I will let you know.
